GFI tells how generative AI is building stronger IT teams

IT teams already use generative AI to transform IT operations (ITops), according to GFI Software, a vendor of networking, security and communications management applications.

For instance, GFI said this included developing traditional IT team roles and creating new ones. The vendor has rolled out generative AI-based enablement for various of its applications this year.

“Systems administrators are now working alongside machine learning engineers. Data analysts collaborate with AI ethicists,” it said.

“Many routine tasks are being automated. (This is) freeing IT teams for more strategic, creative, and complex problem-solving activities.”

Consequently, AI was forcing organisations to think differently about technical prowess and IT skills, the vendor said.

“While technical prowess remains crucial, the AI era demands a new balance,” it said. “[That means] one that harmonises cutting-edge technical skills with essential human qualities.”

This shift challenged organisations to rethink their approach to building and nurturing tech teams, according to GFI. It was about not just what IT teams could do but how they did it.

“This evolution demands a workforce that’s not only technically adept but also agile and adaptable,” said GFI.

“Continuous learning has become the norm rather than the exception.”

Because they increasingly needed to work with with other departments or stakeholders, IT professionals were also boosting communications and collaboration skills.

For instance, when explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical colleagues, noted GFI.

Emotional intelligence that could support “a positive work environment” was also more valued.

“Building a robust tech team in the AI era requires a multi-faceted approach,” it added.

AI to fuel digital transformation

This was not just about larger enterprises, but would fuel digital transformation at SMB level. “Digital transformation goes beyond merely adopting new technologies,” said GFI in a related blog post.

“It’s about reimagining business processes, improving efficiency, and enhancing customer experiences through digital means. Anything from implementing cloud-based solutions to leveraging data analytics for better decision-making.”

Automation, helped by AI, could for example help many SMBs save time and money.

Advanced reporting features such as in GFI Archiver could help identify more business issues and enhance decision-making by providing insights from archived communications and files, it said.
