Cloud security software from Kaspersky has returned a top score in ransomware protection for businesses, according to the vendor.
Kaspersky reported that its Endpoint Security Cloud demonstrated 100% efficiency against ransomware attacks in an assessment by AV-TEST. Through three different scenarios and 113 attack samples, the product did not lose a single user file — beating out 10 other cybersecurity vendors.
Andrey Dankevich, senior product marketing manager at Kaspersky, added: “Although ransomware can really switch off a business for some time and it can be very hard and expensive to restore the data, protection from it doesn’t demand sophisticated measures or huge investment.”
Dankevich said that despite the rise of criminals and attacks-as-a-service using ransomware, following simple rules such as backing up data and educating employees to not open phishing emails, together with a good endpoint security product, should be sufficient.
Andreas Marx, chief executive officer at German IT security research institute AV-TEST, confirmed that Kaspersky had offered strong protection against all ransomware attacks in its tests.
“It clearly outperformed the other reviewed products,” Marx said. “Regardless of whether we’re speaking about REvil or Ryuk or Conti – none was effective and able to perform the malicious actions when Kaspersky was protecting the system.”
Research from Kaspersky — whose business and consumer products include Kaspersky Internet Security, Kaspersky Security Cloud and Kaspersky Total Security — reported that in Q2 2021, 3905 new ransomware modifications were discovered and 97,451 users were attacked globally — about 6000 more than in the previous quarter.
AV-TEST compared the performance of 11 endpoint protection platforms in real-world ransomware attacks on local system user files, real-world ransomware attacks on user files in a remote shared folder, and proof-of-concept ransomware attacks targeting local system user files.
Products were expected to detect ransomware activity and files, block and remove ransomware, and reverse any user file changes. Twenty-five ransomware families including REvil, Ryuk, Conti, Lockbit, pysa, Ragnarlocker, Ransomexx and 14 proofs-of-concept were included.
