Germany-based TeamViewer and Google Cloud have agreed a deal for the remote connectivity platform vendor to provide its enterprise-focused augmented reality (AR) offerings on Google smartglasses.
According to TeamViewer, the first product from the joint development and marketing arrangement will be a hands-free order picking application for retailers using Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 smartglasses loaded with TeamViewer Frontline visual picking software.
Alfredo Patron, executive vice president of business development at TeamViewer, said: “We are looking to extend our partnership and apply this same technology stack to improve manufacturing, field service and supply chain processes within other industries.”
Carrie Tharp, vice president for retail and consumer at Google Cloud, said: “Shopping behaviour has changed dramatically, especially in the current pandemic, and retailers are having to hire new associates (retail store assistants) while rethinking their picking and fulfillment processes.”
Shop assistants can be sent order information to the Google Glass display, which they can read within the lens of the smartglasses as they go about their in-store duties. This means they can use both hands to select the items on the order, which TeamViewer says can speed up picking by 15% or faster.
“At the same time, it provides new data insights to retailers serving the increasing demand from customers for buy online and pick up in store (BOPIS) and same-day delivery options,” according to TeamViewer.
The partnership builds on TeamViewer’s acquisition of industrial AR company Upskill in March 2021, the company added.
TeamViewer specialises in remote access, support and connectivity for a range of use cases and applications with products including enterprise-focused remote connectivity SaaS TeamViewer Tensor, AR-focused Frontline, AR Assist and more.
