Managers with a newly dispersed team working from home across both PC and Mac devices can ease a few typical pain points with Parallels Desktop for Mac Business, as Parallels’ Nicolette Carklin reports.
“It’s essential that your employees have access to all their work files, software and other digital assets to maintain productivity and complete work,” she points out.
This becomes especially tricky when teams no longer receive company-issued, standardised laptops that they can use anywhere. Files and formats that look fine on one platform can become the proverbial dog’s breakfast viewed or edited on another.
One solution for the employee who works on a Mac at home but needs to access business-critical Windows applications is Parallels Desktop for Mac Business Edition, Carklin explains.
Straightforward to install and use, the software can be deployed across hundreds of users, including email set-up, in “a few clicks”, she says, with user and device access secured via enforced policies and encrypted virtual machines (VMs).
“Employees can leverage Mac and Windows capabilities on a single computer, saving organisation stime, money and desktop resources,” she notes.

Parallels most recently unveiled its Desktop 15 for Mac. This application enables Windows to be run on the Mac without the need to reboot the machine.
Nick Dobrovolskiy, senior VP of engineering and support for Parallels, said in a recent press statement that the firm had been listening to its customers and will continue to develop features that simplify IT’s and users’ ability to work from anywhere, on any device, cost-effectively.
Some 30 utilities are bundled into the Desktop 15 for Mac package, helping users simplify everyday tasks on both Mac and Windows. Users can quickly move files, apps and more from one platform to another (and back again), access Microsoft Office for Windows and Internet Explorer (IE), and run Windows apps quickly without experiencing a slowdown in the Mac’s performance.
The application also allows users to develop and test across multiple OSes in a VM for Mac.
Serving up success remotely via hybrid cloud
IDC in late January positioned Parallels as a major player in its MarketScape for virtual client computing 2019-2020, praising its “solid, effective, easily operated application and desktop virtualisation at a comparatively low cost and across a range of endpoint device platforms”.
The company’s hybrid-cloud operational tools for IT administrators span datacentre, hosted, public, and private cloud solutions.
For example, Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS) features include single sign-on, multi-tenancy, and use of familiar iOS and Android native-touch gestures with virtual Windows applications.
“Parallels RAS enables IT admins to easily and securely deliver virtual applications and desktops to a Windows PC, Mac, Chromebook, iPad, iPhone, Android tablet or phone, and Linux, as well as any HTML5 browser,” the company said.
