Interactive entertainment firm Sega turned to Studio 3T to solve unique challenges around its Sonic the Hedgehog game for mobile.
In mobile gaming, many thousands of users can be playing at the same time. To scale to millions of lifetime users, avoid latency in performance, and supply a satisfying mobile gaming experience, they have begun using MongoDB as the backend, with servers written in NodeJS.
Sega’s HARDlight Studios acquired over a dozen Studio 3T licences: using a mix of Core and Pro versions, they’ve saved time and effort when verifying games during quality assurance, where it is critical that test data can be updated as accurately and easily as possible.
Scott Griffiths, senior programmer at Sega HARDlight in Leamington Spa, said: “In our production database with 11 million accounts, I can easily export that data from production into my own local server – and I can very easily get a sample of the production data, importing and exporting using Studio 3T.”
Developers can fix a problem immediately, by editing a value directly in the database and can see databases in one place, without log-in details. With Studio 3T, MongoDB documents are very easy to visualise, and the debugging workflow is streamlined.
