Hybrid cloud technologies from open source-derived software vendor Red Hat will power the virtual network functions for Orange Egypt’s 12 datacentres and six sites around Cairo and Alexandria.
In less than a year, Orange Egypt launched its advanced virtual network package vEPC in all 12 datacentres to provide 100% of broadband traffic to its mobile devices through its developed virtual network, the announcement said.
Red Hat’s OpenStack platform and Ceph Storage solutions will help Orange Egypt provide services to customers faster as well as optimise network investments and reduce operating expenses, according to a statement from Red Hat.
Orange Egypt, the leading mobile service provider in the country, is the first in the Orange Group to manage all customer mobility through software-based platforms across several locations.
Eng. Ayman Amiri, technology EVP at Orange Egypt, said: “We have decided to lead via open source software that supports the development of the next generation platforms of electronic clouds.
“By using the horizontal communication cloud based on Red Hat technologies, we can face challenges faster.”
The telecoms firm is moving from evolution pack data (EPC) supplier to programmatic distributed network architecture on standard devices.
Orange Egypt will be able to connect with an integrated system of thousands of certified service providers via Red Hat cloud from which Orange Egypt can select, reducing costs.
Additionally, Red Hat Consulting is providing certified training and professional services to Orange Egypt teams to help them get the most of its open source-derived technologies, tools and methodologies.
Orange Egypt wishes to enhance its response time to changing conditions and is looking to virtualise its core mobile package, which has been running stand-alone functions on dedicated devices, according to Red Hat.
