Automox adds data analytics to drive visibility and security

Endpoint management automation company Automox has launched a new analytics tool that it says will drive visibility of IT and security performance.

Jason Kikta, chief information security officer (CISO) and senior vice president of product at Automox, said the analytics offering would give clear, actionable metrics.

With these metrics, customers could enable continuous improvement across their IT environments.

“Data-driven insights are essential for IT and security leaders to not only protect their organisations but to prove the impact of their work,” Kikta said.

Accordingly, organisations would be able to prove their value and at the same time streamline operations, he said.

Additionally, Automox Analytics could deliver reports quickly to identify critical gaps such as unpatched devices and missing patches.

At the same time, users could visualise improvements over time with a progress tracking function. This would show patches applied and common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVEs) remediated, the vendor added.

Data analytics for targeted corrections

Also, users could view data across endpoints and operating systems through ThoughtSpot-powered reporting, enabling targeted corrective actions.

“Prebuilt reports are included for all new and existing Automox customers, with additional custom reporting options available for advanced users,” the vendor said.

IT teams increasingly need to justify budgets. They may be asked to demonstrate their contribution to business outcomes, it added.

Also, policy-driven IT automation via a platform like Automox can save time and reduce risk.

Managing third-party patching especially has often been a headache for organisations, according to Automox’s Peter Pflaster.

“The challenge with third-party patching lies in the diversity of solutions each vendor employs to distribute updates,” he said.

“Without a centralised solution, IT teams are left juggling various update processes. This can create inefficiencies and leave endpoints vulnerable.”

Solutions like Automox could help, he added.

For example, its platform could assist with identifying needed updates while centrally managing policies. Third-party updates are cached once scanned against vulnerability databases.

Then updates are fetched and installed according to patching schedule triggers, Pflaster noted.
