Digitisation tools like Miro, Microsoft and more lift productivity

Productivity Institute research highlights digitisation tools with connectivity as important factors in solving the productivity puzzle.

When comparing regions with better productivity and performance, Kings College London researchers noted that digital tools and connectivity are key to success. That’s alongside other crucial resources such as housing and skills.

“In the South West region, the strong performance of Bath and North East Somerset may be attributed to consistent investment in digital and creative technologies,” their report said.

“London continues to lead the UK in productivity, driven by its high concentration of tech and high

value-added businesses, a substantial share of graduates and highly skilled workers, and the advantages of agglomeration economies and top-tier infrastructure.”

The researchers went on to argue that further investment in digitisation across the country could provide further benefits.

Digitisation tools to drive productivity

In 2025, myriad solutions are available to help organisations digitise workflows, processes and more in a bid to improve productivity across teams, wherever they’re located.

For example, software tools, often cloud based, that can be applied directly to enhance team collaboration.

These range from online meetings platforms like Microsoft Teams and the Microsoft 365 productivity software portfolio to e-signatures and contract lifecycle management from Docusign, and the cloud-based virtual whiteboarding platform Miro.

“Collaborate is crucial for innovation,” says Kat Boogaard, writing for Miro. “Well-known innovations from the light bulb to the internet weren’t solo efforts. They were a direct result of teamwork.”

The company’s own ongoing research on innovation uncovered collaboration as one of four main building blocks of innovative company culture.

“Bringing people with different perspectives, skills, and abilities together generates the most creative and groundbreaking ideas,” she says.

However, it requires more than proximity or a shared supervisor. Projects are dynamic and must be adaptable to changing requirements.

Innovation comes from sharing ideas, challenging assumptions, and building on each other’s strengths,” Boogaard says. “And reducing time-to-market is crucial.”
