Cybersecurity vendor Opswat acquires Pentagon provider InQuest

Opswat has acquired InQuest, a provider of cybersecurity technologies to the US Department of Defence.

According to Opswat’s announcement, the move adds advanced network analysis and threat intelligence to its critical-infrastructure focused portfolio, enhancing the MetaDefender platform in particular.

“With this acquisition, Opswat will accelerate its go-to-market strategy for the federal market and enhance protection against network-based threats by merging InQuest’s threat intelligence capabilities with Opswat MetaDefender Cloud and FileScan.io into a single repository,” it said.

“InQuest customers will also benefit from enhanced network detection and response (NDR) with built-in integration with MetaDefender.”

The deal was announced at the Black Hat USA cybersecurity conference in Las Vegas.

Ospwat said InQuest was known for its novel deep file inspection and other technologies protecting Pentagon customers with network appliances and threat intelligence.

The companies first partnered back in 2013 when Opswat’s MetaDefender module was integrated with InQuest NDR in a Pentagon focused offering, it said.

Michael Arcamone, InQuest chief executive, joins Opswat as chief strategy officer and vice-president of federal sales.

InQuest chief technology officer Pedram Amini becomes Opswat chief scientist, researching threat intelligence, machine learning, and email security in relation to network-based threats.

“Amini will help drive the integration of the InQuest Labs, MetaDefender.com and FileScan.io communities,” the announcement said.
