Microsoft 365 (M365) cybersecurity firm Hornetsecurity has rolled support for Microsoft Planner into its 365 Total Backup solution following the release of the task-and-project management tool.
According to the email security focused vendor, the new and upgraded functionality formed part of 365 Total Backup and 365 Total Protection Plans 3 and 4, with “robust new features” provided for free.
“This upgrade extends Hornetsecurity’s robust data protection suite, ensuring critical business data is securely backed up and recoverable,” the vendor said in its August announcement.
According to Hornetsecurity, the broader scope of protection supports general data protection regulation (GDPR) compliance, building out backup and recovery functionality for M365 applications including Mailbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
Admins would benefit from more flexibility in the restore options for recovery, such as the ability to select multiple restore points, it suggested.
“It provides a visual representation of the plan and its evolution within selected timestamps, allowing users to restore specific tasks with ease. This mirrors that of Microsoft Planner for enhanced usability,” Hornetsecurity added.
Also, admins would be able to restore all plans linked with one or more M365 Groups to the same group, a different group, or a .zip archive, it said.
“Disaster recovery can also be performed in the event of a complete loss of plans and boards from Microsoft Planner, minimising downtime and data loss,” the announcement said.
A feature dubbed “Four-Eye Approval” has been included, with a view to enforcing approvals for changes to or deletions of backup data or important settings, it said, reducing the risk of interference or accidental changes via a second approval step available during initial on-boarding and after a tenant has been established.
Hornetsecurity targets some 12,000 channel partners and MSPs worldwide. Its 365 Total Backup offering for automated backup and recovery of M365 data, including mailboxes.
According to Hornetsecurity, Microsoft “takes no responsibility” for customer data so its users must protect against potential losses from errors, malware or attackers.
