Remote access and connectivity provider RealVNC has announced new releases of the key apps in its Connect solution, RealVNC Server and RealVNC Viewer, as well as supporting programs.
According to vendor release notes, users of RealVNC Server 7.12.0 can limit the maximum number of concurrent Virtual Mode sessions with the MaxDesktops parameter, and can retrieve a list of connected Viewer users via C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC Server\vncserver.exe” -service -getconnections on Windows.
“The RealVNC Server Diagnostics [also] now show a specific message if direct connections have been disabled,” the notes said.
The RealVNC Viewer 7.12.0 for Windows, Mac or Linux based desktops can drag application windows from one Viewer window to another in Multi-Window mode, pin remote-access session toolbars in place via Preferences, and send clipboard content as keystrokes to a RealVNC Server.
Improvements have also been made to session information dialogs, Server configuration, keyboard shortcutting, on-demand assist crashes while signed into Viewer with single sign-on (SSO) and address book display, RealVNC said.
“Users receiving remote support can now see additional information about the technician connecting to their device to help verify the technician’s identity,” it added.
RealVNC Connect customers include the likes of Reji for monitoring kiosk and point-of-sale software targeting US-based convenience/retail focused businesses, and queue management and appointment software vendor Qtrac to help the support team ship, set up and monitor customer devices worldwide.
According to Reji, other remote-access offerings lacked full functionality to visually and simultaneously monitor “hundreds” of remote access connections.
“With RealVNC Connect, Reji Viewport can easily open hundreds of live-monitoring portals with a click of a button,” it said in a case study by RealVNC.
