Remote connectivity vendor RealVNC says its customers are seeing benefits from working with its Connect application across different platforms, including Android as well as the more traditional Windows based desktop or laptop endpoints.
Bogdan Bele, writing for RealVNC, said that its RealVNC Connect for Android was being used by customers in multiple industries, including global organisations and in “innovative ways”.
“One of the biggest names in US fast food has extensively adopted Android-based devices including tablets, Zebra scanners and Zebra printers. With the help of these devices, drive-in orders can now be managed remotely,” Bele said.
The unnamed customer was piloting this “hybrid approach”, using connectivity to optimise operations and add flexibility in workforce management, fostering the company’s ability to adapt to market changes, Bele wrote in the RealVNC blog post.
The Android operating system runs on various devices, many of which are increasingly used in industries from hospitality to manufacturing and beyond. Android devices are easy to integrate and flexible when it comes to the way in which they can be used.
A list of supported platforms for RealVNC Connect is here.
Mobile connectivity can enable staff to help potential customers faster while moving around, for instance, a retail outlet or restaurant. In factories, remote access can help the production floor keep things moving as well as communicating problems as they occur, Bele pointed out.
RealVNC Connect with unattended access can make it easier and faster for workers to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they work whether they are on a traditional computer or mobile device, he said.
According to the vendor, the remote access solution enables organisations of all sizes to access and operate their fleets devices with a secure connection that is lightweight yet can still be configured to suit specific needs.
Sessions aren’t recorded, and data is encrypted. Cybersecurity and privacy are catered for via compliance with the likes of ISO/IEC 27001:2013, the UK’s Cyber Essentials, the EU’s GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and CCPA, according to RealVNC.
RealVNC’s authentication and cloud connection brokering avoids use of public cloud services such as AWS or Azure, with third-party providers unable to access its infrastructure, the vendor said.
